Housing Timeline & Process

The following information includes dates and instructions for each step of the housing process. The group in which you are placed depends upon when you have submitted the housing contract.

New Spring 2022 Students

New Spring 2022 students may submit a contract between October 4 – December 3, 2021. These students will participate in room selection and room changes based on the dates below.

New Fall Students Group 1

Students who submit a contract between October 2021 – January 27, 2022, will be placed in Group 1. These students will participate in roommate selection, room selection, and room changes based on the dates below.

Students who submit a contract after May 1, 2022, will be placed in Group 5. These students will be individually assigned by the DHRL staff as space is available. Roommate requests are not accepted.

Housing Process

The following instructions provide a step-by-step guide to the housing process. All steps are shown to provide students with information that is necessary when completing their housing contracts. For each step you will log into the Housing Portal—you will need your NetID and password.

Contract Submission

1. Log In

Log in to the Housing Portal by using the Texas State University Login button at the bottom of the page.

2. Welcome

You will be brought to the Welcome page each time you log into the Housing Portal. This page has important information about living on campus.

On the right side of the Welcome page, your Student ID Number is displayed along with some action buttons.

Please write down your Student ID Number (A0#) as you will need it later to submit your housing contract, then click the Submit Housing Contract button.

3. Housing Contract Selection

Here you will click the Apply button for the semester you were accepted for.

4. Personal Details

The first step once a housing contract has been started is the Personal Details page. Please review the information on this page for accuracy and contact the Registrar’s Office at 512.245.2367 if there are any errors. Incorrect information might affect housing status.

5. Emergency & Missing Person Contact Information

The next couple of pages will ask you to provide a contact person in case of an emergency or missing person situation.

6. Required Information

The page is asking for some required information.

7. Terms & Conditions

The Terms & Conditions page must be signed in order to continue with the housing process. By entering your Student ID Number (A0#), you have signed and agreed to the Terms & Conditions of your housing contract. This is a legally binding contract. You have 72 hours to cancel without penalty; the request to cancel must be submitted online.

8. Housing Pre-Payment Checkout & Receipt

On the following pages, you will be asked to make a housing pre-payment. You will be emailed a receipt upon submission of your payment.

Unless your pre-payment is deferred, your housing contract is not complete until we receive your housing pre-payment.

9. Contract Confirmation

Your housing contract is now complete. Please verify that the email we have listed is the correct email address. This is the email we will be using to contact you with any further information.

10. Housing Contract Status

This page will let you know the status of your housing contract, as well as, your Timeslot for Room Selection.

As a reminder, you will need to purchase a Meal Plan from Texas State Dining if you live on campus. If you live in Bobcat Village, the purchase of a Meal Plan is optional. For more information on Meal Plan purchases, please visit Texas State Dining's website.

Roommate Selection

1. Roommate Matching Questionnaire

Answer the questions on this page to help match you with a compatible roommate. Then click the Save & Continue button.

2. Roommate Groups

From this page, you will be able to use different methods to choose your roommate. If you already know who you want to room with or you want to pick from the list of suggested roommates you will need to create a group.

IMPORTANT: The person who creates the group will be Group Leader and will need to assign themselves AND their roommate to a room.

If you do not want to participate in roommate selection you can click the Save & Continue button. This will take you to the Room Selection page if it is your timeslot.

3. Create a Group

To create a group for you and your roommate, click on the Create Group button. The person who creates the group will automatically be the Group Leader.

On the Roommate Group Create page choose a name and password for your group.

Once you are done, click Create Group.

If you know who you want to room with (and they have completed a housing contract), click the Search for Roommates by Details link. You will need to know your roommate's First and Last Name OR their Student ID Number (A0#).

If you do not know who you want to room with, but would like to choose from individuals who match with you based on the Roommate Matching Questionnaire then click the Suggest Roommates link.

4. Search for Roommate by Details

On the Roommate Search by Details page enter in either your roommate's First and Last Name OR their Student ID Number (A0#) then click the Search button.

The search results will appear below. Find your roommate and click the Add to Group button. If you are unsure if the person you are selecting is your roommate, you can click the Send Message button and send them a message within the Housing Portal to confirm. This helps in cases of common names.

5. Suggest Roommates

If you don’t have a specific person in mind for your roommate then you can click on the Suggest Roommates link and it will show you a list of results of people who match with you. This percentage match is based on the answers you gave on the Roommate Matching Questionnaire page.

When you find someone who you would like to possibly room with then click the Add to Group button.

Your roommate will receive a message within the Housing Portal that they have been invited to join your group. They will need to go to the Roommate Group page to accept the invitation to the group before you begin Room Selection.

IMPORTANT: If they do not accept the invitation then you will not be able to assign them to a room during Room Selection.

Once both you and your roommate are in your group, you can begin Room Selection whenever the Group Leader's timeslot begins.


Room Selection

1. Select Your Hall

Click the Select button for the hall or apartment you wish to live in.

2. Select Your Room

The Room List page will show you all the rooms that are currently available for you to choose from. If you do not see the room, then it is unavailable.

In the example pictured we have selected San Jacinto Hall. We are being shown multiple options for San Jacinto 104, that is because San Jacinto 104 is a four person suite and so there is a San Jacinto 104A, 104B, 104C, and 104D.

Click the Add to Cart button for the room(s) you would like to choose for you (and your roommate).

IMPORTANT: Once you add a room to your cart, you will have 20 minutes to complete the assignment and confirm your space.

3. Assign Beds

Once you have selected the Add to Cart button click Save & Continue at the bottom of the page to be taken to the Assign Beds page. Here you will be able to assign yourself (and your roommate) to a bed. Click on the drop-down menu and select from the bed spaces available.

If not enough space is available for you and your roommate, you will need to return to the Room List page to pick a different room that has more than one bed available.

When you have chosen a space, click the Assign Beds button.

4. Confirmation

You will be taken to a Confirmation page for you (and your roommate's) bed assignment. Click the Save & Continue button on this page to secure your assignment and move on to the Housing Contract Summary page.

If you are the Group Leader and have not selected a bed for your roommate, you must go back to the Room List page and assign your roommate to a bed.

5. Housing Contract Summary

The Housing Contract Summary page will give you your Roommate and Room information.

Beds without a contract are vacant and will be filled throughout the Room Selection process. You can use the Send Message link next to your roommate's name to send them a message within the Housing Portal.

If a person has privacy settings on their account, the bed will be labeled as "Occupied".

Room Changes

If you want to change your room assignment you can log in to the Housing Portal during your Group's time and select the Room Change button on the right-hand side.

After clicking Save & Continue, you will start by selecting the hall you want to live in and then choose the room you want. The Room Change process will be exactly like Room Selection.

When you are done, the Housing Contract Status page will reflect your new room assignment.
