Housing Timeline

The following lists out the dates of each step of the housing process. The group in which you are placed depends upon when you have submitted the housing contract. Scroll down to access the step-by-step instructions on the housing process. If you are a continuing student, please visit the continuing student recontracting timeline.

New Spring 2019 Students

Spring 2019 New Students may submit a contract between October 1, 2018 – December 7, 2018. These students will participate in room selection and room changes based on the below dates.

The Housing Process

The following instructions provide a step by step guide of the housing process. All steps are shown to provide students with information that is necessary when completing their housing contracts.

For each step you will log into the Texas State StarRez Housing Portal — you will need your NetID and password.


1. Texas State StarRez Housing Portal

Access the Texas State StarRez Housing Portal through the Housing Process tab under Future Students on the Department of Housing and Residential Life website, or click here.

2. Log In

Log in to the Texas State StarRez Housing Portal by using the Texas State University Login button at the bottom of the page.

3. Welcome

You will be brought to the Welcome page each time you log into the Texas State StarRez Housing Portal. The Welcome page displays your name and Student ID Number. Please write down your Student ID Number (A0#) as you will need it later to submit your housing contract.

4. Housing Contract Selection

Click the Housing Contract tab in the navigation bar at the top. Here you will be able to select your housing contract time frame. Next, click the green Apply button to begin.

5. Personal Details

The first step once a housing contract has been started is the Personal Details page. Please review the information on this page for accuracy and contact the Registrar’s Office at 512.245.2367 if there are any errors. Incorrect information might affect housing status.

Fill out your contact information that you wish to share with your roommate or suitemate.

6. Emergency & Missing Person Contact Information

Please review the Emergency Contact Information for accuracy. If this information is incorrect, you will need to update your records through your Texas State University CatsWeb Student Self Service Portal.

Fill out the Missing Person Contact Information with the person you would like to be contacted should you be deemed missing. This contact person can be the same as your emergency contact. However, you must enter this information before continuing to the next page.

7. Housing Contract Required Information

If there are any housing accommodations that should be taken into consideration when making assignments, please select "Yes" to the first question. You will need to contact and get approval from the Office of Disability Services (512.245.3451) to receive special accommodations. 

Living-Learning Community
If you are interested in a Living-Learning Community please select "Yes" to the second question. If you select "Yes" that you are interested in an LLC, the following page will ask you to list your preferences. A list of Living-Learning Communities can be found here.

8. Living-Learning Community Preferences

If you selected “Yes” that you are interested in living in an LLC, you will be asked to list up to three (3) preferences on this page. You must list at least one (1) preference to continue. If you change your mind, press the back button in your browser to return to the previous page and select “No” to the second question.

Choosing your LLC preference(s) does not automatically put you in an LLC. You will need to submit a separate application for your preferred LLC through the Living-Learning Community website.

9. Terms & Conditions

The Terms & Conditions page must be signed in order to continue with the housing process. By entering your Student ID Number (A0#), you have signed and agreed to the Terms & Conditions of your housing contract. This is a legally binding contract. You have 72 hours to cancel without penalty; the request to cancel must be submitted in writing.

10. Housing Pre-Payment Checkout & Receipt

On the following pages, you will be asked to make a housing pre-payment. You will be emailed a receipt upon submission of your payment.

11. Meal Plan Selection

Select your Meal Plan and click Save & Continue.

This page will let you know the status of your housing contract, as well as your Timeslot for Room Selection and the Meal Plan you selected.

1. Roommate Matching Questionnaire

Answer the questions on this page to help match you with a compatible roommate. Then click the Save & Continue button.

2. Roommate Matching Contact Information

Fill out this page to provide your roommate with your preferred way of contact. You will also be able to message each other through the Portal. Once you have filled out the information, click the Save & Continue button.

3. Roommate Groups

From this page you will be able to use different methods to choose your roommate. If you already know who you want to room with or you want to pick from the list of suggested roommates you will need to create a group.

IMPORTANT: The person who creates the group will be Group Leader and will need to assign themselves AND their roommate to a room.

If you do not want to participate in the roommate selection and just want to be automatically assigned to someone you can click the Save & Continue button on this page. This will take you to the Room Selection page.

4. Create a Group

To create a group for you and your roommate, click on the Create Group button. The person who creates the group will automatically be the Group Leader.

On the Roommate Group Create page choose a name and password for your group. If you and your roommate want to live in a Living-Learning Community, select the one you are interested in in the Living-Learning Communities drop-down menu.

If you are not interested in living in a LLC, leave it blank.

Once you are done, click Create Group.

If you know who you want to room with (and they have completed a housing contract), click the Search for Roommates by Details link. You will need to know your roommates First and Last Name OR their Student ID Number (A0#).

If you do not know who you want to room with, but would like to choose from individuals who match with you based on the Roommate Matching Questionnaire then click the Suggest Roommates link.

5. Search for Roommates by Details

On the Roommate Search by Details page enter in either your roommates First and Last Name OR their Student ID Number (A0#) then click the Search button.

The search results will appear below. Find your roommate and click the Add to Group button. If you are unsure if the person you are selecting is your roommate, you can click the Send Message button and send them a message to confirm. This helps in cases of common names.

6. Suggest Roommates

If you don’t have a specific person in mind for your roommate then you can click on the Suggest Roommates link and it will show you a list of results of people who match with you. This percentage match is based on the answers you gave on the Roommate Matching Questionnaire page. 

When you find someone who you would like to possibly room with then click the Add to Group button.

Your roommate will receive a message that they have been invited to join your group. They will need to go to the Roommate Group page to accept the invitation to the group before you begin Room Selection.

IMPORTANT: If they do not accept the invitation then you will not be able to assign them to a room during Room Selection.

Once both you and your roommate are in your Verified group, you can begin Room Selection whenever the Group Leader's timeslot begins.


1. Select Your Hall

Click the Select button for the Hall you wish to live in.

2. Select Your Room

The Room Selection page will show you all the rooms that are currently available for you to choose from. In the example pictured we have selected San Jacinto Hall. We are being shown multiple options for San Jacinto 104, that is because San Jacinto 104 is a four person suite and so there is a San Jacinto 104A, 104B, 104C, and 104D. 

Click the Add to Cart button for the room(s) you would like to choose for you (and your roommate).

IMPORTANT: Once you add a room to your cart, you will have 20 MINUTES to remove it from your cart before the room you have selected is automatically assigned to you (and your roommate).

3. Assign Beds

Once you have selected the Add to Cart button click Save & Continue at the bottom of the page to be taken to the Assign Beds page. Here you will be able to assign yourself (and your roommate) to a bed. Click on the drop-down menu and select from the bed spaces available.

If not enough space is available for you and your roommate, you will need to click the Go Back button to pick a different room that has more than one bed available.

When you have chosen a space, click the Assign Beds button.

IMPORTANT: Once you click the Assign Beds button, you will not be able to make a change to your room until your Room Change process begins. Click here for times.

4. Confirmation

You will be taken to a Confirmation page for you (and your roommates) bed assignment. Click the Save & Continue button on this page to move on to the Contract Summary page which will give you your Roommate and Room information, as well as the Meal Plan you selected.

If you are the Group Leader and have not selected a bed for your roommate, you must go back to the Room Selection page and assign your roommate to a bed.

Confirmation Page

The Room Change process will be exactly like Room Selection. Use the top navigation bar in the Portal to go to the Room Selection page.

You will start by selecting the hall you want to live in and then choose the room you want. Please refer to the Room Selection portion for more detailed instructions.

Your Confirmation page will reflect your new room assignment.
