Moving In and Getting Settled

The university operates a centralized move-in process at the University Events Center. Our office expects approximately 6,500 students to move in during August. Please follow our guidelines:

How To Address Mail & Packages

Report to the University Events Center (not your assigned hall) at your assigned arrival time. Be prepared to show your Texas State ID and Move-In Ticket. (Exception: Bobcat Village residents should report to that facility to check in.)

Students arriving prior to their assigned time will not be allowed to check in.

If you arrive on your assigned day but miss your assigned time, you may check in at the University Events Center between 4:30 – 5:00 p.m. or at your assigned hall between 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Please do not ship personal items to your hall before move-in.

Move-In Directions

Our staff wanted to share some logistical information about coming to campus on your move-in day.
Check out the driving directions.

Move-In Tickets

Move-In Tickets containing the location and time of your move-in will be sent to your bobcat email on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, if your student ID ends between 00-50 and Wednesday, August 14, 2019, if your student ID ends between 51-99.

Early Arrivals

Early arrivals are select groups of students who arrive and check directly into their respective residence hall or apartment in the fall semester (cat camp, student athletes, strutters, and university band). Hence, these students are directly notified via their Texas State email address of the exact date and time to arrive here at Texas State. This process is different from the move-in process that the majority of our students experience.

Additional move-in instructions are provided on our website.

Getting Settled

Let the fun begin! Decorating your residence hall room allows you to showcase your style and personality in your new home. You have the opportunity to transform your room into a cozy, comfortable home by adding personal items.

The list below contains items that are allowed in your room and some that should be left at home. Be sure to consult your roommate to avoid duplicates. All X-long twin and standard twin beds can be lofted to provide more floor space. No additional equipment is required. The beds in Jackson, Lantana, and Sterry cannot be lofted.

How To Loft Your Bed

Your Housing Contract ends 24 hours after your last final exam in May.

Move-Out is not centralized or structured like the Move-In process.
You will need to complete a proper check-out with your RA.

Residents who have legitimate reasons for staying in their hall past their last exam should send an e-mail request to their RD with their name, room number, student ID number, and specific reason for needing to stay longer. You will be notified if approved or if not approved.

Schedule A Check-Out

You will need to check out of your room with an RA. Depending on your hall, this will mean either signing up on a schedule near your RA’s room or going to the front desk and asking for assistance.

Your Room Must Be Clean

This means the floor swept, furniture wiped off, and all trash removed or you will be assessed a cleaning charge.

Fish

If you do not want to take your fish home, please do not flush them or take them to the river—either step will result in a negative impact on the river eco-system and could result in the native river species being destroyed. Instead, you can take your fish to the San Marcos Discovery Center (located at 430 Riverside Drive).

Trash

If there is trash or dirt piled up in the hallway or elsewhere in the building, we may stop check-outs. Everyone is responsible for taking all their trash and unwanted items to the dumpster outside. We have extra trash bags at the desk if you need one.

All trash must be taken to the dumpster. It must not be left in the hallways or study rooms, kitchen, etc.

3M Command Strips are no longer allowed in the residence halls.

If you used the command strips to hang items, DO NOT REMOVE THEM, let us do that for you. If you remove them and cause damage, you may be charged $25 per spot/area of damage.

Additional Important Information

Un-bunk/loft your beds and return ALL furniture to its original position, the beds should be in the lower position, not raised. If you have the black lofts you must make sure all of the wooden bed pieces are present or you will be charged for the missing furniture. With your roommate, decide on a time when you both will be able to help each other un-bunk/loft your beds. It is easier with two people. Return bunk pins to your RA.

Leave the blinds drawn down with the slats closed.

Update your forwarding address at the front desk. Contact friends, family, and creditors to change your address with them so that mail will reach you in a timely manner. Mail is forwarded for 30 days only.

If you fail to check out with an RA, the improper check out fee is $150.00
