Students in this community will take several courses together. This allows for study groups and a richer experience in the LLC. Courses have been selected from Texas State's general education core curriculum and are prerequisites for advancement into upper-level nursing courses.
- Fall: Biology 1330 (Functional Biology) and Math 1315 (College Algebra)
- Spring: Chemistry 1341 (General Chemistry I) and Philosophy 1320 (Ethics and Society)

How did the LLC help you transition from your hometown to Texas State? It helped me meet a lot of new people I feel as though I wouldn't have met if I wasn't in the LLC.
What has been your favorite social thing about the LLC thus far? My favorite social event so far would have to be the field trip to the Texas State campus in Round Rock where we visited the St. David’s School of Nursing.
What has been your favorite academic thing about the LLC thus far? My favorite academic activity would have to be the study groups.
What do you like about your LLC in general? I like the sense of community.
Who is your favorite professor and why? My favorite professor so far would have to be my biology teacher, Dr. Erica Nierth, she is very sweet and understanding as well as a great instructor.
What is a fun fact about you? A fun fact about me would have to be that I grew up in Michigan.
Dr. Erica Nierth earned her PhD from the Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences at Tulane Medical School. She joined the Biology department at Texas State University as a Senior Lecturer and Laboratory Coordinator in 2011. Dr. Nierth serves as the course coordinator for Functional Biology (BIO 1330), a course that all pre-nursing students will need to successfully complete.
Dr. Nierth loves to spend time riding through the countryside around San Marcos on her bicycle and swimming in the local rivers. Dr. Nierth lives in New Braunfels with her husband, four children, and giant poodle named Angus.

Out of Class Activities
In addition to social opportunities and team-building events, students in the Pre-Nursing LLC will have access to a variety of activities related to the major and career. Activities will likely include: Regular study groups based on course syllabi, Tour of St. David's School of Nursing and simulation labs, Introduction to student organizations in Nursing, A panel of employed nurses (alumni), A panel of upperclassmen who have been admitted to the program, Health Professions Career Fair, Application information for the St. David's School of Nursing, Lunches with faculty advisor.
