Students and parents often ask, "What can we do to our room?" Well, the answer is: "Pretty much anything you want...within reason."
We understand that by personalizing your room, you would probably be more comfortable and feel more at home. Keep in mind however, that whatever you do to your room to make it more enjoyable must not be noticeable in any way when you move out.
We work on the belief that although you may make changes to your room which you feel are great, it is quite possible that next semester you may no longer be occupying the same room. And the person who lives in the room after you leave will most likely have different tastes.
We must assess charges when unacceptable alterations are made during a semester, or when the room has not been returned to its original condition at the end of the academic year.
If a charge is assessed, you are not being assessed for replacement of the identical item which was damaged, but the current costs associated with replacement with a new item.

Please note our policy on hallway & door decorations:
While your room is your private domain, consideration must be given to the floor and university community when decorating and posting items on the outside of your door and in the hallway. Paper of other flammable materials, if used for hall or door decorations, must be laminated or covered in plastic to reduce the chance of fire. Items with interfere with the educational mission of the university are prohibited in hallways, outside of rooms, and displayed from windows. These include, but are not limited to, abusive, indecent, profane, or vulgar language; offensive materials determined to be racist, harassing in nature or threatening to an individual group, pornography, and illegal substances.
