How can I room with a friend also coming to Texas State next semester?
We attempt to grant every roommate request, but it is never a guarantee. To increase your chances of being assigned together, please submit your hall contracts together in the same envelope. Your ten residence hall choices should match those submitted by your friend. Also, you should each write a note letting us know that your roommate choice takes precedence over your hall choices.
I am a new student. Can I room with a friend already living there?
It is difficult to place a new student with an existing student. Students who currently live on campus have the opportunity to select where they will live next semester, which means they have priority over incoming students. Current students are not allowed to hold a space in their room for new students to be assigned.
We assign new students first come, first served. You are assigned a receipt number once we have your contract. Assignments are made based on a list printed in receipt number order. We strive to place students in their first residence hall choice. It that is not possible, we try their second, third, etc. If no space is available in any of their choices, they are assigned to an alternate residence hall (one they did not choose, but where we had available space).
If we are unable to assign you into the same room, or even the same residence hall, with your friend, you have from the first day the residence halls open through the 12th day of class to make a change if space permits. You will receive instructions for this once you arrive on campus.
Can I get a private room?
We do not usually have space available for private rooms in the fall semester. You may apply for a private room by going to the front desk of your residence hall and completing a private room request form. The requests will be collected by the residence director. If all students have an assignment after the first class day and empty spaces still remain, private rooms will be assigned based on when you submitted your request. There is an additional charge for a private room at 1.5 times the double occupancy rate. You will be responsible for remitting payment before you can claim the room.
If I sign up for a residence hall, can I switch to another if I change my mind?
A student can make changes to their hall choices after they sign their a hall contract by submitting a request in writing to the Department of Housing and Residential Life. However, we urge students to be certain of their plans before signing a hall contract.
