Housing Questions

I'm going to be a new student in the fall, when can I apply for housing?
You can apply for housing once you have received your acceptance letter from Office of Admissions. If you are an incoming freshman or a transfer student who is under the age of 21 with fewer than 52 credit hours, attached to your acceptance letter will be a hall contract and housing information.

Can I sign a residence hall contract for the fall semester only?
No. The residence hall contract is legally binding for the academic year, which runs through the end of the spring semester. The only exception is for students not enrolled for the spring semester, due to graduation, transfer to another university or who will not be returning to Texas State. Students not returning for the spring semester must cancel their reservation in writing and submit it to the Department of Housing and Residential Life (DHRL). The deadline to cancel for the spring semester is December 1.

Can I register for classes if I have not signed a residence hall contract, or submitted a residence hall exemption request form?
Students under 21 as of September 1st for the fall semester with less than 52 hours by the end of the previous spring semester will not be able to register without a contract or approved exemption request form on file with the department. Students are not allowed to later cancel their contract if they choose to commute.

Can I live on campus even if I'm taking less than 12 hours?
Yes. There is not a minimum number of hours required to live on campus. Likewise, students who are enrolled in less than 12 hours are not exempt from the university housing policy, unless they have an approved exemption request form on file with the department.

How do I get a parking permit?
Vehicles parked on campus must display a parking permit. During spring reapplication, parking applications and registration cards will be available at your hall front desk. Complete the forms to obtain approval through Parking Services. You will receive an envelope addressed to Parking Services to mail in your form.

Do I get my prepayment back?
No. The prepayment is applied to your hall charges.
