Apartments & Off-campus Questions

I am not 21 and have less than 52 hours. Is there a way to live off campus?
You must submit a residence life exemption request form to our office to determine if you are eligible to live off campus. Students living with a parent within 60 miles of the university are eligible to live off campus. If you will not be living with a parent, please review the second page of this form to see if any of the possible exemptions apply to your situation.

Is there a deadline to submit a residence hall exemption request form?
The last day to submit an exemption request form is the last working day before the halls open for a new semester. Students who are required to live on campus will not be able to register for classes until a signed hall contract or an approved exemption request form is on file with the Department of Housing and Residential Life (DHRL). Students are urged to submit their request at least two weeks prior to their registration/orientation period.

How can I reserve a university-owned apartment?
Reservations for university apartments are submitted through the DHRL. Take a look at the apartment information available on our Web site for information on our five complexes.

How long does it take to receive a decision on a hall exemption request?
The review/approval process depends on the time of year it is submitted and the number of requests received at that time. Students should submit their request at least two weeks prior to their registration/orientation period. Students will be notified of the decision by mail. To speed up the process, students should include the required information (as indicated on the hall exemption request form). Typically, we have a decision within five to ten working days. Medically-based requests can take up to three weeks.

Can I live off campus for the summer?
The university does not require students to live on campus during summer sessions. Limited housing is available to students who wish to reside on campus during the summer provided they are enrolled and attending summer session classes.
