It is difficult to place a new student with an existing student. Students who currently live on campus have the opportunity to select where they will live next semester, which means they have priority over incoming students. Current students are not allowed to hold a space in their room for new students to be assigned.
We assign new students first come, first served. You are assigned a receipt number once we have your contract. Assignments are made based on a list printed in receipt number order. We strive to place students in their first residence hall choice. If that is not possible, we try their second, third, etc. If no space is available in any of their choices, they are assigned to an alternate residence hall (one they did not choose, but where we had available space).
If we are unable to assign you into the same room, or even the same residence hall, with your friend, you have from the first day the residence halls open through the 12th day of class to make a change if space permits. You will receive instructions for this once you arrive on campus.
