You can apply for housing once you have received your acceptance letter from Office of Admissions. Depending on the university housing policy, you may be required to live on campus. If so, you will receive a housing contract once you are accepted to the university.

No. The residence hall contract is legally binding for the academic year, which runs through the end of the spring semester. The only exception is for students not enrolled for the spring semester, due to graduation, transfer to another university or who will not be returning to Texas State. Students not returning for the spring semester must cancel their reservation in writing and submit it to the Department of Housing and Residential Life (DHRL). The deadline to cancel for the spring semester is December 1.

Students required to live on campus according to the university housing policy will not be able to register without a contract or approved exemption request form. Students are not allowed to later cancel their contract if they choose to commute. 

Yes. There is not a minimum number of hours required to live on campus. Likewise, students who are enrolled in less than 12 hours are not exempt from the university housing policy, unless they have an approved exemption request form on file with the department.

Vehicles parked on campus must display a parking permit. During spring reapplication, parking applications and registration cards will be available at your hall front desk. Complete the forms to obtain approval through Parking Services. You will receive an envelope addressed to Parking Services to mail in your form.

No. The prepayment is applied to your university charges if you do enroll at the university. If you choose not to enroll, you will receive a refund according to the refund schedule printed in your contract.

We do not usually have space available for private rooms in the fall semester. You may apply for a private room by going to the front desk of your residence hall and completing a private room request form. The requests will be collected by the residence director. If all students have an assignment after the first class day and empty spaces still remain, private rooms will be assigned based on when you submitted your request. There is an additional charge for a private room at 1.5 times the double occupancy rate. You will be responsible for remitting payment before you can claim the room.

A student can make changes to their hall preferences online line any time before they are assigned. Once assigned, students must wait until the first day of move to request a change through their residence director.

1. Apply to the university. You will automatically receive housing information once accepted. Students may not apply until they are officially accepted to the university.
2. Submit your housing contract and prepayment to the Department of Housing and Residential Life. We recommend getting in your contract early. The department begins  accepting contracts in October for the following academic year with approximately 2,000 being received between October and April.
3. Wait five days, and then submit hall preferences through Bobcat Preferences on the department Web site.
